Nature-related insurance innovations are creating new pathways to protect and restore nature, mobilize biodiversity finance and strengthen community resilience. From compensating farmers for livestock losses linked to jaguars and leopards to financing post-hurricane coral reef restoration, early applications are demonstrating what is possible.
As interest in insurance for nature grows, practitioners are navigating different questions: When is an insurance solution appropriate? How can successful solutions move from pilots to scale? Where has insurance added the greatest value, and what partnerships, policies and financing arrangements are needed to make it work?
Join UNDP for 'Insurance for Nature: New Pathways for Biodiversity Finance and Resilience', a conversation with governments, insurers, academics, conservationists and development actors advancing nature-related insurance solutions. The discussion will be grounded in real world examples and insights that can help others design and scale similar approaches.
The event will also mark the global launch of Designing Insurance for Nature: A Practical Guide — a resource developed by UNDP to help practitioners identify where insurance can reduce nature-related risks, protect biodiversity and finance resilience — wherever they are in their journey.
