Benson K. Mwileli is an environmental finance and sustainable investment professional with over a decade of experience across commercial banking, capital markets regulation, and green and biodiversity finance. He joins the BIOFIN Global Team as Environmental Finance Specialist for the Africa Region.
Prior to this role, Benson served as the National Coordinator for BIOFIN Zambia, where he led the development and implementation of flagship initiatives including Zambia’s green bond market development programme, the development of Zambia’s Green Finance Taxonomy, analytical work on nature related financial risks amongst others. His work focused on translating policy and analytical foundations into practical market and regulatory reforms, in close collaboration with financial regulators, government institutions, development partners, and the private sector.
Before joining UNDP, Benson worked at the Securities and Exchange Commission of Zambia, where he played a key role in market supervision of capital market players and co-championed the Commission’s sustainable finance agenda. Across his career, he has been actively involved in strengthening regulatory frameworks, building institutional capacity, and mobilizing public and private capital in support of sustainable development outcomes.
Benson holds academic training in economics, finance and management accounting, complemented by specialist training in sustainable finance, and brings a strong systems perspective to help BIOFIN advance biodiversity finance across the African region and beyond.
