Alonso Martínez

Environmental Finance Analyst for the LAC region

Alonso Martínez holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Tec de Monterrey, a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations, and a specialisation in Environmental Economics from UNAM. He also holds a Master’s degree in Environmental Economics and Policy from University College London.

He began his career at the National Commission of Natural Protected Areas (CONANP), where he contributed to the integration and economic valuation of ecosystem services for conservation. Throughout his career, he has worked to integrate economic and financial approaches into biodiversity conservation policies and strategies.

For over seven years, he has collaborated with the UNDP’s BIOFIN initiative, serving as an Environmental Economist, Mexico’s National Coordinator, and most recently Environmental Finance Advisor.
