Malawi’s Biodiversity Expenditure Review (BER) examines how financial resources are allocated and spent on biodiversity conservation and management across the country. It provides an overview of biodiversity-related expenditure and helps identify financing trends and opportunities to improve the effectiveness of biodiversity spending.
The review recognizes biodiversity as an important contributor to Malawi’s economy and livelihoods, while highlighting growing pressures from unsustainable resource use, over-exploitation, pollution and climate change. Its findings provide an important evidence base for strengthening biodiversity finance planning and supporting implementation of Malawi’s national biodiversity priorities.
