CBD COP 17 – UN Pavilion Event
Unlocking Investment for Nature: New Partnerships to Advance Blended Finance

Time & Location
October 26, 2026 at 18:15 – 20:00
UN Pavilion, Blue Zone, Yerevan, Armenia
Despite nature’s critical value, ecosystem conservation costs far exceed current financial commitments. Achieving the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) targets—especially Target 19’s mandate to leverage private finance—requires urgent, collaborative action. The Nature Investment Facility (NIF) is designed to bridge this funding gap, using blended finance to mobilize private capital and help protect 30% of our planet by 2030.
Building on its CBD COP 16 debut, the NIF is proud to announce a landmark partnership with the Government of Germany’s International Climate Initiative (IKI). This funding expands NIF’s reach and launches the Africa Living Landscapes programme, a flagship initiative designed to deploy catalytic blended finance structures that unlock commercial investment for nature-positive enterprises in critical African ecosystems.
This side-event brings public and private stakeholders together to explore how the NIF builds investable pipelines, strengthens enabling environments, and uses blended finance to de-risk investments. We will showcase insights and lessons learned from NIF’s portfolio across Africa, Southeast Asia, and South America, alongside key partners including Cartier Philanthropy, the Government of Flanders, UNCDF, and UNESCO.
Join us for an interactive dialogue on leveraging private investment to accelerate landscape-level conservation and restoration. Participants will gain practical insights into designing and scaling partnership-based, blended financing solutions that deliver measurable, lasting nature-positive impact from local to global levels.
