Access and Benefit-sharing (ABS) is designed to ensure that benefits arising from the use of genetic resources and associated traditional knowledge are shared fairly and equitably with the countries and communities that provide them.
But ABS also has an important role to play in biodiversity finance.
Effective ABS systems require investment — from establishing the right policies and institutions to supporting research, value chains, businesses and mechanisms that ensure benefits reach the people and communities who provide and safeguard genetic resources.
This webinar will explore how ABS can contribute to closing the biodiversity finance gap and support implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. Drawing on new guidance developed by UNDP BIOFIN and GIZ, speakers will share practical approaches for integrating ABS into national Biodiversity Finance Plans and financing strategies, alongside country experiences and expert perspectives.
The webinar will also introduce the new publication Integrating Access and Benefit-sharing into Biodiversity Finance, which explores the investments needed to make ABS systems work, approaches for financing ABS value chains and a range of finance solutions that countries can consider.
Meet the speakers
The webinar brings together experts working across Access and Benefit-sharing, biodiversity finance and policy, alongside practitioners sharing country experiences from India, Brazil and South Africa.
